Mental Illness Is A Medical Illness

I recently had a discussion about spiritual warfare, and it was from a mental heath advocate asking one solid question: Would you tell your friend or family with diabetes that they were being attacked spiritually? ___ Of course the answer is no! Why? Because we fully recognize that diabetes is a medical condition that can be managed. Yet, it is so hard for people to accept that mental illness is also medical and deals with your brain. ___ There is absolutely nothing wrong with being spiritual or religious . We as people just have a long history of fearing what we don't understand (inserts Salem Witch Hunt), and when we place things like demons, and evil spirits in association with mental illness it dehumanizes the person battling this medical illness and downplays the medicine that helps this person function. ___ Here's a secret: You can practice your religion AND go to therapy, trust your doctors, and take medication. Nothing has to take away from the other. ___ Once we change our perspectives and view mental illness as the medical condition/illness it is, then stigmas can change and people can truly start getting the help they need.
